CONTENT STATEMENT
In this unit, students will create a digital collage using images of their environment. They will learn how to upload, crop. and arrange images into fragmented shapes to create a new composition. Through this process, students will explore how altering and combining visual can transform meaning and create unique perspectives.
Lesson/Day 1- Introduction to Collage & Perspective
-
Snapshot of the Day:
Students will look at collage artworks and discuss how artists combine images to create meaning. They will be introduced to the idea of perspective and transformations in terms of environments.
-
Objective(s):
Students will be able to describe how artists use collage to transform the way an environment is represented.
-
Assessment:
Students will describe how collage changes the meaning of an environment by writing a short response that includes at least two observations from the works.
Lesson/Day 2- Learning Digital Tools
-
Snapshot of the Day:
Students will learn how to use digital tools to upload, crop, and manipulate images. The teacher (I) will model each step before students practice independently.
-
Objective(s):
Students will be able to demonstrate how to upload and crop digital images to use in the collage.
-
Assessment:
Students will demonstrate their understanding by successfully uploading and cropping at least 2 images independently.
Lesson/Day 3- Creating a Fragmented Environment
-
Snapshot of the Day:
Students will begin creating their digital collage by combining images of different environments (natural, urban, or imagined). They will experiment with fragmentation, layering, and composition to create a unique perspective of a place.
-
Objective(s):
Students will be able to create a digital collage that combines multiple environmental images to express a transformed perspective.
-
Assessment:
Students will create a collage by arranging at least 5 images into a cohesive composition that demonstrates layering and fragmentation
Lesson/Day 4- Reflection and Presentation
-
Snapshot of the Day:
Students will finalize their collages and present their work to the class. They will reflect on how their choices of images, composition, and manipulation communicate a specific perspective of an environment.
-
Objective(s):
Students will be able to explain how their collage communicates a personal or imaginative view of an environment.
-
Assessment:
Students will explain their artwork through a brief presentation describing their theme, image choices, and how their collage transforms the environment.
